Circle Ansuz in Portland, OR Help Antifascists Shut Down Holocaust Denier Lecture

November 5, 2012

On the afternoon of Saturday, November 3rd the Portland Leidang of the Circle Ansuz Collective assisted the Rose City Antifascists along with other antifascist and antiracists comrades in shutting down a lecture entitled “Hitler & I” given by Holocaust denier David Irving at the La Quinta Inn in NW Portland, Oregon.
According to the Rose City Antifascist web site:

Holocaust Denier David Irving

Holocaust Denier David Irving

“David Irving is a British writer of histories who has been involved with the fascist political scene since the 1960s. Always known for the pro-Hitler bias of his books, approximately two decades ago Irving made the transition to being a fully-fledged Holocaust-denier, when he testified at the trial of neo-Nazi Ernst Zündel in Canada, and also arranged the publication of Fred Leuchter’s widely-refuted report on gas chambers at Auschwitz. In addition to spreading blatant historical lies, Irving has publicly stated that “The Jews are the architects of their own misfortune”. Unsurprisingly, Irving became an extremely popular speaker at neo-Nazi rallies in Germany.”

The Portland Leidang of Circle Ansuz is opposed to revisionist historians who pose as scholars to spread and organize hate. We see this as a crime similar in nature to revisionist historians within Heathenry who twist the history of our Germanic ancestors to fit their fascist/racist/homophobic worldview. It is well known in Portland that when neo-Nazi lectures, talks, rallies, concerts and such are held, like the kind David Irving gives, they are always followed by an uptick in racist violence in our communities. Hate lectures like this pose an immediate threat to the entire community.

One attendee who was prevented from entering the event complained on and on about his “rights as a ‘merican” and said we were censoring him and preventing free speech. To this we told him that his hate speech is not free speech. Speech that provokes people to violence (even if it is concealed as pseudo-scientific history) will not be tolerated in our communities.  The saddest part of the day was the fascists who hid behind their own small children in order to gain entry into the event. Literally hiding behind children like the dishonorable cowards they are. However for us the best part of the day was when attendee’s to the holocaust denial lecture called police on antifascists after a scuffle outside the lobby. Shortly afterwards the same attendees were escorted by police from the hotel and off the property after the venue was flooded with calls from supporters asking for the event to be cancelled. These events endanger not only the community at large but more directly the diverse hotel staff, who were terrified after learning about the nature of the event. We applaud the staff of the hotel for cancelling the event and therefore helping to stop the inevitable racist violence that would have followed. As antifascist anarchist Heathens we oppose fascism, racism, and bigotry in our spiritual and physical communities.  In solidarity and frith with RCA and antifascists everywhere:

Please contact us with questions and with any information relating to racist or fascist organizing, groups, bands, kindreds or individuals in Heathen communities.
